“An ethereal, moss-draped Southern Gothic garden for the dead.” The spirits of songwriter Johnny Mercer and the poet Conrad Aiken have been seen near their graves here, but the most famous ghost of the cemetery is of the eternally 6-year-old Gracie Watson, who died of pneumonia and was buried here in in 1889. A statue of her likeness was installed above her grave; people have witnessed tears come from its eyes.
